ABOUT BEETENSON & GIBBON
incorporating Scammell & Braithwaite
Who we are
  Mr T H A Beetenson - Company Founder
  The Firm's Founder -
Mr T H A Beetenson
This firm was set up by the late Mr T H A Beetenson on 1 January 1944. He had working for him a Conveyancing Clerk, the late Bob Smith (father of the current Senior Partner). In 1953 Lawrence Gibbon joined Tom Beetenson and thus the firm's name as it appears today was established.

Since those very early days of the Practices' history the firm has grown steadily and it is now one of the largest Legal Practices in the area. We consider it to be the best Practice.

Beetenson & Gibbon's Grimsby Office (centre) in the late 1930's when it housed a doctor's surgery. Many of the surrounding buildings have since been demolished to make way for more modern amenities like today's multi-storey car park.
Beetenson & Gibbon has always undertaken a wide range of legal work and in recent years the Litigation Department has grown to cope with the large increase in contentious work. The firm continues, as it has always done, to deal with private client work, but also deals with large companies and Corporations, and therefore has a wide client base.

The firm's aim is to continue its gradual expansion and cater for the broad breadth of clients who require a first class Legal Service.

We are a caring, pro-active professional firm of Lawyers and the current Partners are committed to introducing quality standards throughout the Practice.

In 1998 the firm gained accreditation as an Investor in People, a National recognition which requires the recipient to adhere to quality procedures with regards to staff relations. We have successfully retained our IIP status each year since following regular audits by the awarding authority.

In addition we were one of the first firms in North East Lincolnshire to gain Legal Aid Franchises (now called Contracts) in: Crime, Family, Debt, Housing and Employment. This Specialist Quality Mark as it is now called, means that we have been approved by the Legal Services Commission (formerly The Legal Aid Board) to provide a quality service to our clients.

We continue to successfully pass the rigorous Legal Services Commission Audits of our systems and office procedures to be able to continue to provide a first class legal aid service.

In April 2007 we incorporated the business and staff of Louth based Scammell & Braithwaite into Beetenson & Gibbon. The two principals of S&B - Peter Braithwaite and Gary Swann - have become partners in the enlarged enterprise. All the staff in Louth have been retained.

Scammell & Braithwaite was founded by John Scammell and Peter Braithwaite in 1990 at their Northgate, Louth premises . Both had previously worked together in the legal department of the Nickerson Group from the mid 1970s.

Gary Swann joined the practice in 1994 and became a partner in 1996. John Scammell retired in 1996.

The incorporation of Scammell & Braithwaite will allow both offices to offer a wider range of services to clients. The traditional values of both firms will be maintained and the friendly, quality, personal service that clients have come to expect will be nurtured and extended.
